Thanks to Phillip Hodgetts (aka @Intelligent Assistance) for sending in a free early copy of the software that’s enormously useful for converting FCP projects to FCP7. It can also work with FCP projects.
7toX for FCP 7 comes with a set of 30 exported files that can be imported into Final Cut Pro 7 on your Mac or in an emulator like Windows. It will even (at last!) work with imported projects, but only if you’ve built your project in FCP X.
Below is a little bit of code that will help you to download the upgraded Elements from your FCP7 project. Without the same multicam support as the new FCPX you will have to have a set of FCP7 multiclips for all the elements you wish to upgrade. But if you separate your elements into categories, like common clips, audio files, background shots, etc. then you will be able to go from 7.0 to 10.0.3 without any compatability issues. Just be sure to download the Elements version of 7toX if you’re upgrading from FCP7 to FCPX.
